'Bows Fall At Sacramento State 10-6 To End Series

Box Score

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (9-19, 2-6 WAC) fell to the Sacramento State Hornets (10-14, 5-3) 10-6 in the series-finale at Hornet Field Sunday. Joshua Schneider (2-2) took the loss for UH while Trevor Paine (2-1) got the win for the Hornets.

Jonathan Hee went 4-for-5 with a run and a double to lead the way for UH. Brandon Haislet added a 3-for-4 game with a double, one RBI and two runs. Kevin Macdonald added a 2-for-3 game with two RBI, and a run while Jeffrey Van Doornum was 2-for-3 with one RBI, one run and one double with Landon Hernandez finishing 2-for-5 with one RBI.

The Rainbows brought out the bats at the start of the game, posting four-straight hits to get two runs on the board. UH had a great opportunity to break the game open early in the first inning, but left a bases-loaded, one-out situation, to keep their lead at just 2-0.

That would come back to haunt the 'Bows in the bottom of the fourth as Tim Wheeler hit a two-run homer to tie the score at 2-2. The Hornets then took the lead, scoring five more in the inning to give themselves a 7-2 advantage.

Hawai`i came back with a couple runs in the top of the fifth as Macdonald drove in Haislet from second before Vinnie Catricala sacrificed in a run, getting it to 7-4.

Sacramento State got those two runs back right away, scoring two in the bottom of the fifth to get it to 9-4. Van Doornum hit an RBI-single up the middle in the top of the sixth to get it back to 9-5, but gave up another run in the bottom of the eighth. Hawai`i would score a run in the ninth, but it wasn't enough, taking the 10-6 loss.

The Rainbows continue their long road trip with a game at No. 21 Stanford on Tuesday, April 1, before playing a four-game series at San Jose State from April 4-6.
