Rainbow Wahine Tied For Fourth After First Day Of Donnis Thompson Invitational

First Round Results

KANE`OHE, O`ahu - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team opened the 2008 Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational with a round of 303, tying for fourth after the first day at Kane`ohe Klipper Golf Course Monday.

Xyra Suyetsugu and Carolina Perez led UH with opening rounds of 75, tying for 16th. Corie Hou shot a 76 to tie for 21st, while Lisa Kajihara posted a 77 to tie for 29th and Kimberley Marsden shot 83, tying for 72nd.

Phyllis Lai led a group of players that played as individuals for UH, shooting a 77 to tie for 29th. Erin Matsuoka shot 82, tying for 66th, with Kana Aikawa posting an 84, tying for 80th.

Arizona stormed out of the gates to shoot 286 in the first round, holding a five-shot lead. Oklahoma State is in second at 291, followed by Arizona State (301), UH and UTEP (303).

UA's Alison Walshe shot a blistering 66 to hold the individual lead. She's followed by her teammate Amanda Wilson, who shot 71. Three players, Osaka's Nanae Shinzato, Arizona's Mary Jacobs and OSU's Tammy Gelland, are tied for third with opening-rounds of 72, with four others tied for sixth with rounds of 73.

The tournament continues tomorrow with a single round, starting at 7:30 a.m. (shotgun start), before concluding on Wednesday.
