HONOLULU - The fifth-ranked University of Hawaii women's water polo team extended its win streak to five with a 15-9 victory over Cal State Northridge Sunday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.
Junior Angela Turnbull had a match-high five goals while junior Kelly Mason scored three. Sophomore Leoni Van Der Molen and freshman Carmen Eggens also scored two goals each.
Freshman Serena Bredin, who started the match, led the team with five saves. She was replaced by freshman Sara Gralitzer, who had three saves in the fourth quarter. Liz Kiethley made her debut at goalie closing out the match with one save.
The Rainbow Wahine held on to a five-point lead until the Matadors scored three goals in the second quarter narrowing their lead to 7-3 at the half. Hawai`i dominated the third quarter, scoring five goals to take a 12-5 advantage into the final period. Despite a late comeback by CSUN who had four goals in the fourth quarter, UH was able to capture its fifth straight win of the season.
The Rainbow Wahine, who are undefeated in the MPSF, will host USC in a scrimmage on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
