HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team concluded their two-match homestand with a tough 4-3 loss to Southeastern Conference powerhouse and No. 33 Arkansas, Sunday afternoon, at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors dropped to 2-8 on the season, five losses coming by the score of 4-3.
Arkansas (10-6) won the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The dynamic duo of junior Sascha Heinemann and sophomore Andreas Weber upended the team of Tyler Tarnasky and Colin Mascall at the No. 1 court, 8-3.
In singles play, the Rainbow Warriors' big three, Heinemann, Weber, and freshman sensation Dennis Lajola all won their matches at the top three singles positions. Lajola blew past Blake Strode in straight sets at the No. 1 court, 6-2, 6-1. Weber, ranked No. 123 in the latest ITA singles rankings, rolled over Mascall, 6-0, 6-3, at the No. 2 position. Heinemann defeated Matthew Hogan at the No. 3 court, 7-5, 6-2.
The Rainbow Warriors will make their second road trip of the spring season, competing in four dual matches in Oklahoma and California. UH will play tennis powerhouse and No. 12 Tulsa on Mar. 29, No. 52 San Diego State on Apr. 2, No. 53 UC Irvine on Apr. 4, and UNLV on Apr. 6.
