Rainbows Fall To No. 8 Michigan 11-5 In Coca-Cola Classic

SURPRISE, Ariz. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (5-5) fell to the No. 8 Michigan Wolverines (4-2) 11-5 in the Coca-Cola Classic at Texas Rangers Field #6 on the Surprise Recreation Center Saturday. Alex Capaul (0-3) took the loss for UH while

Greg Garcia broke out, going 3-for-4 with a home run and a double. Matt Roquemore added a 2-for-5 with two runs with Jonathan Hee going 2-for-5 with a run.

Michigan opened the scoring early as Nate Recknagel hit a two-run home run in the first inning. UH responded with two runs in the bottom of the first, as Hee scored on an error before Vinnie Catricala drove in Roquemore to tie it at 2-2.

The Wolverines then put up an unearned run in the third before exploding for a four-run inning in the fourth, making it 7-2.

UM again posted a four-run inning in the seventh to blow it open at 11-2. Hawai`i was able to put together a couple of runs in the eighth, driven in by Evan Zimny and Kevin Fujii, cutting it back to 11-4. Garcia then homered in the ninth to make the final 11-5.

The Rainbows will face Portland at 4:00 p.m. on one of the Kansas City Royals' practice fields.
