Top-Ranked Bruins Pull Away From Rainbow Wahine, 15-10

STANFORD, Calif. - Three-time defending national champion UCLA overpowered the University of Hawai'i women's water polo team, 15-10, Saturday in the Stanford Invitational at Avery Pool. The loss was UH's first of the season after starting the season with four consecutive wins.

The Rainbow Wahine (4-1, 2-0 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation), who earlier in the day defeated San Jose State, trailed 3-1 after the first quarter but pulled to within 6-5 at the half.

The Bruins (8-0) scored six goals in the decisive third quarter which gave them a 12-9 lead entering the final period.

Junior Kelly Mason scored a match-high four goals to pace the Rainbow Wahine. Jilian Kraus had four kills for the Bruins.

Freshman Serena Bredin had seven saves in goal for UH.

The Rainbow Wahine enter the final day of the tournament with a 1-1 record. UH will meet Michigan in its final round-robin match.
