Rainbow Wahine Cruise Past Banana Slugs, 20-6

PALO ALTO, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i women's water polo team remained perfect for the 2008 season with an easy 20-6 non-conference victory over Division III UC Santa Cruz Friday at Palo Alto High School.

The Rainbow Wahine (3-0, 2-0 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) are in the midst of a seven-match, five-day road trip, which started with MPSF road wins at Pacific and California.

Freshman Samantha Motekaitis nearly out-scored the entire Banana Slug team with five goals. Leoni Van Der Molen and Lisa van Raalte each chipped in with three goals. A total of 10 Rainbow Wahine found the net.

Freshman Sara Gralitzer started and played the entire match for UH in goal and recorded 10 stops.

After a 2-2 tie, the Rainbow Wahine scored the next three goals to close out the first period and added two more to start the second to pull away.

UH will next compete in the Stanford Invitational which begins on Saturday. The Rainbow Wahine are scheduled to face San Jose State, three-time defending NCAA champion UCLA, and Michigan.
