Warriors Too Much For Alumni

HONOLULU - The 15th-ranked University of Hawai`i men's volleyball team (3-6, 2-4 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) swept its alumni, 30-26, 30-19, 30-28, in front of 745 Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Warriors were paced by redshirt freshman Joshua Walker, who recorded a team-high 14 kills. Steven Grgas tallied seven kills and two blocks for the Warriors.

Former Warrior Jacob Muise led all players with 15 kills.

The alumni and Warriors went back and forth in the first game before the Warriors prevailed down the stretch, 30-26. James Clar had five kills in the first set. UH took the second game with ease, 30-19, as Walker contributed seven kills. In the third contest, the alumni pulled within a point after trailing by as many as seven before the Warriors finished off the match, 30-28.

Other UH standouts competing for the alumni were; Shaun Frederick, Kai Kahele, Chris Kosty, Mason Kuo, Malulia La Barre, Sivan Leoni, Kimo Tuyay, and Ryan Woodward.

In an earlier all-alumni match, the "Green" team defeated the "White" team 2-1. Former UH stars from the 1960s, '70s, and '80s competed.

The Warriors will next host the UCLA Bruins next Thursday, Feb. 14, and Friday, Feb. 15. Both matches start at 7:00 pm. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
