WAC Rival Fresno State Drops Rainbow Warrior Tennis

FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team dropped its third straight match on the road against Western Athletic Conference rival and No. 74 Fresno State, 6-1, Friday afternoon, at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. The Rainbow Warriors dropped to 1-6 on the 2008 season.

UH lost the doubles point by losing two of the three matches. The lone Rainbow Warrior victory came from the team of junior Jeff Fitch and freshman Craig Faulk at the No. 2 position. Fitch and Faulk beat Denny Fafek and A.J. Kerin, 8-4. The dynamic duo of junior Sascha Heinemann and sophomore Andreas Weber lost a tight 8-6 decision to Tejesvi Veerepalli and Mirko Zapletal at the No. 1 court, 8-6.

In singles play, the Rainbow Warriors lost five of the six singles matches. Weber, ranked No. 25 in the latest ITA singles rankings, roared past Fresno's Veerepalli in straight sets at the No. 3 position, 6-2, 6-2. Freshman Dennis Lajola lost to No. 92 Rudolf Siwy, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 1 court.

The Rainbow Warriors will conclude their four-match road trip on Saturday against Pac-10 foe Oregon. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. at Fresno's Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
