STANFORD, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team lost its second straight match on the road, against No. 42 Stanford, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon, at the Taube Family Tennis Center. The Rainbow Warriors dropped to 1-5 on the 2008 season.
UH lost the doubles point by losing all three matches. The dynamic duo of junior Sascha Heinemann and sophomore Andreas Weber lost a tough 8-5 decision to Blake Muller and Alex Clayton at the No. 1 court, 8-5.
In singles play, the Rainbow Warriors lost all six singles matches. The second-ranked player in the nation, Stanford's Alex Clayton, defeated UH freshman Dennis Lajola at the No. 1 position, 6-4, 6-4. Weber, ranked No. 25 in the latest ITA singles rankings, dropped a close 6-3, 7-5 match to 75th-ranked Richard Wire at the No. 2 court. Heinemann lost a 7-5, 6-3 marathon to No. 96 Matt Bruch, 7-5, 6-3.
The Rainbow Warriors will continue their four-match road trip on Friday, against Western Athletic Conference rival, Fresno State, 5:00 p.m. at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. UH will face Pac-10 foe Oregon on Saturday, Feb. 9.
