Warriors Open UH-Hilo Invitational In 18th Place

Round One Results

WAIKOLOA, Hawai`i - The University of Hawai`i Warrior golf team shot an opening-round 292 to finish in 18th place after the first day of the UH-Hilo Invitational at the Waikoloa Village Golf Course Wednesday.

Robert Berton led the way for the Warriors, tying for 36th with a one-over-par 71. Travis Toyama and Kyle Walters are both tied for 52nd after both shooting 72. Cody Pewarchuk and Ryan Perez are tied for 89th with rounds of 77.

Three Warriors competed as individuals. Daniel Soglanich shot 75 to tie for 81st, Chase Bingham shot 80 to tie for 94th and Kamden Brakel shot 82 to tie for 96th.

Arizona State and Texas Tech are tied for the team-lead at nine-under-par. Oregon State is in third at seven-under-par, followed by Southern California (-6) and Stanford and Georgia Tech (-5).

ASU's Stephan Gross shot 64 to hold the lead, individually. He's followed by Rob Grube of Stanford and Cameron Tringale of Georgia Tech (-5), and four players tied for fourth at four-under-par.

The tournament continues tomorrow before concluding on Friday.
