SAN FRANCISCO - The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team opened its first road trip of the spring season with a 4-3 loss to San Francisco, Tuesday afternoon, at the Olympic Club. The Rainbow Warriors dropped to 1-4 on the 2008 season.
The Rainbow Warriors lost the doubles point by dropping two of the three matches. The dynamic duo of junior Sascha Heinemann and sophomore Andreas Weber ousted Thong Tu and Einar Hart at the No. 2 court, 8-3, for its sole doubles win.
In singles play, the Rainbow Warriors' big three, Heinemann, Weber, and freshman sensation Dennis Lajola all won their matches at the top three singles positions. Weber, ranked No. 25 in the latest ITA singles rankings, beat Tu in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, at the No. 1 court. Lajola blew past Asaf Cohen at the No. 2 position, 6-3, 6-2. Heinemann won a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Hart at the No. 3 court.
The Rainbow Warriors will continue their four-match road trip tomorrow, against No. 42 Stanford, 1:30 p.m. at the Taube Tennis Center. UH will face Western Athletic Conference rival, Fresno State on Friday, Feb. 8 and Pac-10 foe Oregon on Saturday, Feb. 9.
