IRVINE, Calif. - The fourth-ranked University of Hawai`i women's water polo team captured a 8-7 win against No. 9 Loyola Marymount Sunday at the UC Irvine Women's Water Polo Invitational at Anteater Aquatics Complex. The Rainbow Wahine improve to 8-3 overall.
Juniors Kelly Mason and Lisa van Raalte led UH in scoring with three goals each, followed by junior Angela Turnbull who scored twice.
Freshman goalie Serena Bredin also made 11 stops during the game.
Despite trailing 4-5 at the half, Hawai'i made a comeback with three goals in the third quarter. Mason sealed the win with a final goal in the fourth quarter with 2:23 left. The match was tightly contested with neither team having more than a one goal lead.
Hawai'i will compete for fifth place at 2:45 p.m. PST/4:45 p.m. HST against the winner of the San Jose State and UC Davis game.
