Rainbow Wahine Fall To San Diego, 5-2

San Diego, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team opened its first road trip of the spring season with a 5-2 loss to San Diego, Thursday, at the USD West Tennis Courts. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 0-4 on the 2008 season.

The Toreros (2-4) won the doubles point after picking up victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The UH duo of sophomore Sophie Kobuch and senior Chloe Bihag rolled over Monica Wiesener and Milou Teeling, 8-2, at the No. 1 court. Kobuch and Bihag have won three of their last four doubles matches.

In singles play, the Rainbow Wahine won two of the six matches as they recorded wins at the No. 1 and No. 6 positions. Kobuch raced past Wiesener at the No. 1 court in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. Freshman Jennifer Goldman earned her first victory of the spring season by beating Ellie Faulkner at No. 6, 6-4, 6-4. After winning the first set 6-4, freshman Natasha Zorec dropped the next two sets, 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 4 position.

The Rainbow Wahine will continue their three-match road trip tomorrow, against No. 52 San Diego State, 2:30 p.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center. UH will face UC San Diego on Sunday, Feb. 24, 10:30 a.m. at the Northview Tennis Courts.
