Warriors Tied For 19th At Four-Over After First Day Of John Burns Intercollegiate

First Round Results

SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, O`ahu - The University of Hawai`i Warrior golf team shot a four-over-par 292 on the first day of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, tying for 19th at the Leilehua Golf Course Wednesday.

Travis Toyama led the Warriors, posting an even-par 72, tying for 47th. Ryan Perez and Kyle Walters both shot 73, tying for 56th, with Cody Pewarchuk and Robert Berton both tying for 77th with an opening-round 74.

Three UH golfers competed as individuals. Kamden Brakel led that group, shooting 76 to tie for 89th. Chase Bingham shot 77 to tie for 96th, with Daniel Soglanich posting a 90 to finish in 110th.

There is a three-way tie atop the leaderboard with Auburn, Arizona and San Diego State all finishing the first round at 10-under-par. UNLV and Southern Methodist (-9) are right behind, followed by Texas A&M and UTEP (-7).

Individually, Auburn's Jay Moseley, Arizona's Tarquin Macmanus and SDSU's Johan Carlsson all opened with 66 to tie for first. Eddie Olson of UNLV, Stephen Hale of California and SMU's James Minahan are all tied for fourth at five-under-par, followed by two golfers at four-under and nine golfers at three-under.

The tournament continues with a round tomorrow before the final round on Friday, Feb. 22. Both rounds will open at 8:00 a.m. HST with a shotgun start.
