STANFORD, Calif . - Playing its seventh match in five days, the University of Hawai'i women's water polo team wore down in a 10-6 loss to third-ranked Stanford Sunday on the final day of the Stanford Invitational. Earlier in the day, UH edged Michigan 8-7.
The fourth-ranked Rainbow Wahine (5-2, 2-0 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) led 4-3 after the first quarter. The teams traded goals until a 6-6 tie at the half.
The Cardinal shut down UH in the second half, including the third quarter in which Stanford out-scored the Rainbow Wahine, 3-0.
Sophomore Ryan Hason-Swaner led Hawai'i with two goals. Leading scorer Kelly Mason was held scoreless. Freshman goalie Serena Bredin has six stops in goal.
Kara Hillman scored three goals for Stanford (4-1).
The Rainbow Wahine return to Honolulu before returning to the mainland for matches at Arizona State (Feb. 20) and at the UC Irvine Invitational (Feb. 23-24).
