Elimimian Earns Top WAC Defensive Award; Seven Warriors Named to All-WAC Teams

DENVER – University of Hawai'i linebacker Solomon Elimimian was named the Western Athletic Conference's co-defensive player of the year as selected by the league's nine coaches. Elimimian was also one of seven Warriors named to either the all-conference first or second teams.

Elimimian, a senior from Los Angeles, Calif., is sixth in the WAC in tackles this season with 8.4 per game. He is the school's all-time leader in that category with 414 and is 29 tackles shy of the WAC record. The senior has 101 (53 solo) tackles, including 9.5 for a loss of 33 yards (3 sacks) this season. He has also broken up four passes, recovered a fumble and forced a fumble.

Elimimian joins former Warriors Travis LaBoy (2003) and Al Noga (1986), who've won the WAC's top defensive honor.

Repeating as all-WAC first team members were offensive lineman John Estes and linebacker Adam Leonard. Estes has made 39 consecutive starts at center while Leonard ranks second on the team with 75 tackles.

Defensive back Ryan Mouton, who has played both cornerback and safety positions and also saw action on the offensive side of the ball at slotback, was also named to the first team.

Defensive linemen David Veikune and Keala Watson and wide receiver Michael Washington were selected to the all-WAC second team. Veikune, who was named to the first team last season, leads the WAC in fumbles forced (4) and ranks fourth in both sacks (8.0) and tackles for loss (15.0). He also accumulated 64 tackles on the year. Watson has 28 tackles including 6.0 for loss and 2.0 sacks.

Washington is the team's leading receiver with 49 receptions for 629 yards and five touchdowns.

Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick was named the offensive player of the year. Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore was selected as the freshman of the year and Chris Peterson was picked as coach of the year.
