WAILEA, Maui - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team lost to national powerhouse Stanford, 6-1, in a mock dual match, Tuesday afternoon at the Grand Wailea Resort.
In doubles play the Rainbow Wahine won one of the tree matches. The duo of sophomore
Natasha Zorec and freshman
Alyssa Nafarrete earned a tough victory over Carolyn McVeigh and Veronica Li, 9-8(8) at the No. 2 position.
In singles play, the Rainbow Wahine won one of the six matches. Freshman
Anja-Vanessa Peter beat Li in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4 court. Senior
Melinda Wong lost a tough three-set match to No. 77 McVeigh at the No. 3 position, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0(6). Junior
Sophie Kobuch, ranked No. 69 in the ITA singles rankings, lost to No. 4 Hilary Barte, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 1 court.
The dual match results will not count toward either team's record, however, individual results will count. The match concluded the fall season for the Rainbow Wahine. UH will open the spring season against San Diego State, January 29 at the UH Tennis Complex.
