Andreas Weber advanced to the final round of the qualifying draw on day 2 of the Waikoloa Futures, Sunday, at the Hilton Waikoloa Resort.
Weber beat fellow Rainbow Warrior sophomore
Craig Faulk in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. The junior will next play Brock Newton for a spot in the main draw. Senior
Sascha Heinemann, seeded No. 5, was upset in a long, tight 6-4, 7-6(9) match to Johannes Robert Van Overbeek of the United States. Sophomore
Dennis Lajola has already earned a qualifying spot in the main draw.
The Rainbow Warriors have three players ranked in the ITA singles rankings which came out on Sept. 4. Heinemann is ranked No. 53. Weber is No. 76 and Lajola is ranked No. 89. Lajola leads the team with a 6-2 singles record.
Seven of the nine Rainbow Warriors are represented in the USTA's Pro Circuit singles and doubles tournament. Eight qualifiers will advance to the 64-player main draw, beginning on Tuesday. The pro circuit tournament continues throughout the week.
