WAIPAHU, O`ahu – University of Hawai'i senior
Sascha Heinemann earned a spot in the main draw of the USTA Honolulu Futures tournament, at the Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park Tennis Complex.
No. 6 seed, Heinemann of Eschwege, Germany defeated No. 10 seed, Nicolas Edlefsen of Minneapolis, Minnesota 6-1, 7-5 in the finals of the qualifying draw. Heinemann is currently ranked No. 1471 in the world and is No. 53 in the ITA pre-season ranking. The senior will next play Andrey Kumantsov of Russia in the first round of the main draw.
In other singles action, Rainbow Warrior junior and No. 4 seed,
Andreas Weber of Huenfeld, Germany dropped a heartbreaking match to Devin Britton in two tie breaker sets, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6).
Honolulu Futures defending champion and sophomore
Dennis Lajola is seeded No. 8 in the main draw. The sophomore currently holds a current ITF rank of No. 787 and is No. 89 in the ITA pre-season rankings. Lajola will play wild card entry winner Johannes Robert Van Overbeek in the first round of the main draw.
Seven of the nine Rainbow Warriors were represented in the USTA's Pro Circuit singles and doubles tournament. The pro circuit tournament continues throughout the week.
