HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team opened the first day of competition at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Thursday, at the UH Tennis Complex. Three singles players and two doubles team represented UH on day one of the tournament.
The tournament includes teams from TCU, UC Santa Barbara, Hawai`i Pacific, and host UH and will feature both a singles and doubles individual format.
Rainbow Wahine junior
Sophie Kobuch, ranked No. 69 in the preseason ITA rankings, lost a long and tough 6-3, 7-6(6) match against No. 47 Nina Munch-Soegaard of Texas Christian. Sophomore
Natasha Zorec dropped a three-set marathon to No. 95 Anna Sydorska
of Texas Christian, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
In doubles play, the Rainbow Wahine lost both doubles matches to nationally ranked Texas Christian.
The three-day tournament continues Friday, 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
