Rainbow Warriors Advance At ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. - University of Hawai`i senior Sascha Heinemann, junior Andreas Weber, and sophomore Dennis Lajola all advanced to the second round of the qualifying draw at the D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships, Monday, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Heinemann, seeded No. 6, easily won his match in straight sets against Christian Hansen of Tennessee, 6-2, 6-4. Lajola outlasted qualifier Chris Nott of Arkansas in three close sets, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Weber, seeded No. 27, also needed three sets to win his match against Daniel Buikema of Alabama, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Heinemann will next face Michae Shabaz of Virginia, while Lajola will play No. 32 Nikolas Cromydas of Vanderbilt and Weber will face Halle Norberg of Mississippi. All three Rainbow Warriors are two wins away from qualifying into the main draw. Last year, Heinemann won three matches to qualfiy into the main draw of the All-American Championships and Weber earned an automatic spot into the main draw.

UH has three players ranked in the ITA preseason rankings which came out on Sept. 4. Heinemann is ranked No. 53, Weber No. 76, and Lajola is No. 89.
