SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team continued tournament play at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Region Championships, Saturday, at the Barnes Tennis Center.
In doubles action on Saturday, the team of
Alyssa Nafarrete and
Natasha Zorec lost 8-4 in the round of 16 to the top-seeded team from Arizona State.
In the doubles consolation bracket, the team of
Sophie Kobuch and
Anja-Vanessa Peter won three matches, advancing to the semifinal round on Sunday. Kobuch and Peter won their first match 8-1 and won their next two matches 8-4, 8-4.
Playing in the last chance consolation bracket, Zorec beat Tania Rice of Pepperdine 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 to advance to the round of 16. In the singles consolation bracket,
Melinda Wong lost to Sofia Novak 6-2, 6-3.
The five-day individual singles and doubles tournament includes players from 16 West Region teams. The tournament continues throughout the week.
