The University of Hawai`i coed and women's sailing teams both swept their respective regattas this weekend in the annual Rainbow Invite. Hawai`i had two teams in each regatta but the Rainbows Black team took first place in the coed and women's regattas.
UH, ranked 16th in the latest Sailing World, placed the Black and White teams in the coed regatta. The Black team was led by junior Mike Scott and Jaclyn McLoughlin in the A division. They won their division with a 23 point finish.
In the B division, the `Bows featured senior Andrew Meade and McLoughlin. The pair tallied a division high 21 points. The 44 point total from both divisions placed them well ahead of second place finisher USC with 72. The White team finished third in the coed regatta with a 89 point finish. Each division raced 12 times.
On the women's side, UH again recorded a first place finish out of six other teams with a 50 point total. Western Washington and UC Irvine both tied for second place with 66 points. The women's Black team featured Becky Mabardy and Darla Baldwin who placed third in the A division with 36 points.
UH's sailors in the B division were Hannah Tuson-Turner, Danielle Hull, and Whitney Hohl. They tallied an impressive 14 point finish, the best of the division and propelled the `Bows into first place. The White team finished seventh in the regatta with 157 points.
