Rainbow Warriors Lose Tight Match To No. 18 Florida State, 4-3

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i men's tennis lost a tight 4-3 decision to Atlantic Coast Conference powerhouse and No. 18 Florida State, Friday afternoon, at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors (0-2) took the No. 1, No. 3 singles, and the doubles point against the Seminoles.

In singles play, UH freshman Dennis Lajola made his season debut at the No. 1 position. Lajola, the brother of former Rainbow Warrior and current assistant coach Derrick Lajola, beat No. 68 Sam Chang in an exciting match, 7-5, 6-3.

At the No. 3 court, junior Sascha Heinemann earned a great victory against No. 78 Clint Bowles, 6-3, 7-5. Rainbow Warrior sophomore Andreas Weber, ranked No. 25 in the latest ITA singles rankings, lost a long, hard fought 7-5, 6-2 match to Jean-Yves Aubone, at the No. 2 position.

In doubles play, the Rainbow Warriors won the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. The team of UH junior Jeff Fitch and Lajola defeated Chang and Maciek Sykut at the No. 1 court, 8-5. The dynamic duo of Heinemann and Weber dropped Aubone and Bowles at the No. 2 position, 8-5.

The Rainbow Warriors will next play against St. Mary's on Saturday. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
