Kobuch Wins Again On Day 2 Of Hawai'i Invitational

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team completed day 2 of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Thursday, at the UH Tennis Complex. Seven singles players and three doubles team represented UH in the tournament.

Rainbow Wahine sophomore Sophie Kobuch won her fourth straight singles match, defeating Alabama's top player, Tiffany Welcher, 6-3, 6-2. Kobuch improved her singles record to 4-0 on the 2008 season.

In doubles play, the duo of Kobuch and senior Chloe Bihag won their second straight match, slipping past the team of Karolina Walter and Katie Rybakova of No. 19 Florida State, 9-7. The doubles team of freshmen Jennifer Goldman and Natasha Zorec lost a tight 8-6 decision to Joyce Martinez and Melissa Valenzuela of No. 56 Sacramento State.

The tournament includes players from Alabama, No. 19 Florida State, Kansas, No. 56 Sacramento State, and host UH and features both a singles and doubles individual format.

The three-day tournament concludes Friday, 11:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine will play No. 72 Washington on Sunday, 11:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
