Final Results

RENO, Nev. - The University of Hawai`i Warrior golf team (283-284-294-861) made a late run at the Western Athletic Conference Championship Wednesday, finishing at three-under-par, just one shot behind WAC champion Nevada. The second place finish is the best the Warriors have ever posted at a WAC Championship.

Hawai`i was in the second group of the day and posted a 294, the second-best score of the day. The Warriors then had to wait in the clubhouse to see where they would end up. Nevada had a one-stroke lead with their final golfer, Taylor Coffman, on the 18th hole, a 535-yard par-5. Coffman needed a par to give the Wolf Pack the victory. He ended up off the green with his third shot. But Coffman was able to get up-and-down for the par, giving Nevada the team title.

Pierre-Henri Soero (68-72-70-210) got hot down the stretch and birdied four of his last six holes to finish in third. Travis Toyama (73-69-72-214) ended up tied for fifth, followed by Ryan Perez (71-70-77-218), in a tie for 18th, Kyle Walters (71-78-75-224), in a tie for 30th, and Cody Wolfenbarger (76-73-78-227), in a tie for 37th.

Nevada finished at four-over-par to take the title and the automatic NCAA berth. UH (-3) was in second, followed by Boise State (+2), Fresno State (+5), New Mexico State and San Jose State (+9), Louisiana Tech (+13), Idaho (+21) and Utah State (+25).

Individually, Fresno State's Grant Doverspike (-8) held on for the title. He was followed by Utah State's Devin Daniels (-7), Soero (-6), San Jose State's Roscoe Valetine (-3) and Coffman and Toyama (-2).

The conference also announced the all-WAC teams, with Soero and Toyama earning second-team honors.
