Warriors In Third After First Day Of WAC Championship

Day One Results

RENO, Nev. - The University of Hawai`i Warrior golf team shot an opening round 283 to place third after one round at the Western Athletic Conference Championship at the Hidden Valley Country Club Monday.

Hawai`i is at five-under-par, five strokes behind host Nevada, who leads at -10. Fresno State is in second at seven-under-par, with UH, Boise State (-3), New Mexico State (+1), Utah State (+3), Louisiana Tech (+7), Idaho (+8) and San Jose State (+13) rounding out the field.

Pierre-Henri Soero shot a four-under-par 68 to place himself in a tie for second, individually. Ryan Perez and Kyle Walters are both tied for 10th at one-under-par with Travis Toyama (+1, t-22) and Cody Wolfenbarger (+4, t-31) rounding out the UH team.

Fresno State's Grant Doverspike fired a six-under-par 66 to hold the individual lead. He's followed by four golfers, Soero, Chase Cooper of Nevada and Chris Byrne and John Baranco of Boise State, who are all tied for second at -4.

The tournament continues tomorrow before concluding with the final round on Wednesday, May 2.
