UH's Season Ends At PCCSC Dinghy Championship

HONOLULU - The season came to a close for the University of Hawai`i coed sailing team with a fourth-place finish in the Pacific Coast Sailing Conference Dinghy Championship, April 28-29 at Keehi Lagoon. Seventh-ranked Stanford won the event and with it the automatic berth into next month's ICSA Dingy National Championship.

The Rainbows got a valiant effort from Mike Scott, Jackie McLoughlin and Crystal Bronte who guided UH to a first-place finish in the B division with a total of 61 points. Hawai`i finished fifth in the A division with 101 as Andrew Meade, Mark Spector, Will Whitman, Pam Magasinn, Becky Mabardy and Bronte sailed for the 'Bows.

Stanford blew away the field with 103 points. The next competitor, UC Irvine, finished 44 points off the pace, while USC finished third with 149 points and UH fourth with 162.

UH fell short of the qualifying for the dinghy nationals for the second straight year. It also marks the first time in 11 years that the Rainbows will be shut out of the nationals altogether, after failing to qualify in either the women's, team racing or dinghy events.
