Rainbows Finish Fourth In PCCSC Team Racing

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i coed sailing team finished fourth in the Pacific Coast Sailing Conference Team Race Championship Friday at Keehi Lagoon. USC won the event and the automatic berth to the ICSA Nationals next month.

After five straight trips to nationals, UH has now fallen short of qualifying the last two years. Seven teams competed in a double-round robin and the Rainbows were among four teams to advance to the championship round. USC and Stanford finished the day with identical 12-3 records, but the Trojans were awarded the championship and automatic berth based on two head-to-head wins over the Cardinal. UC Irvine finished third with a 10-5 mark, while UH finished the day 7-8.

Sailing for the Rainbows were Pam Magasinn, Mike Scott, Becky Mabardy, Mark Spector, Jaclyn McCloughlin, Crystal Bronte, Andrew Meade, Darla Baldwin and Will Whitman.

Another nationals berth is at stake as UH hosts the PCCSC Dinghy Championships, Saturday and Sunday at Keehi Lagoon.
