HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to NCAA Division II's top-ranked Brigham Young-Hawai`i, Tuesday, at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine (5-16) will conclude their regular season against another local Division II power, 15th-ranked Hawai`i Pacific on Sunday.

The Seasiders (28-0) grabbed the doubles point with wins at each of the three doubles positions.

However in singles play, the Rainbow Wahine battled back, winning two first sets while Kana Aikawa was on serve deep into her first set with second-ranked Yuliya Ustyuzhanina at the No. 1 court. Freshman Julia Hodes blanked Jing Jing Liu, ranked third in Division II, 6-0 in the first while junior Julia Sandborn took her opening set 6-4 against Shenley Searing.

The Seasiders captured matches at the Nos. 4 and 5 courts as Kun Deng swept Florence Wasko, 6-0, 6-1 while Anna Anikanova dropped Samanta Cappella, 6-2, 6-1. In the meantime, Ustyuzhanina pulled out her first set and the match over Aikawa, 6-4, 6-2. Liu also rallied back as a limping Hodes retired in the third, 0-6, 6-3, 4-1.

UH's first team point occurred at No. 6 where Sandborn finished off her straight set win over Searing, 6-4, 6-4. At court three, freshman Sophie Kobuch split sets with Dori Magas, 2-6, 6-2 before rain halted play. With the Seasiders already securing the team victory, Magas and the BYUH coaching staff walked out of the facility giving Kobuch a forfeit victory and handing Magas her first singles loss this year.

UH's regular season finale against HPU on Sunday begins at 1:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
