FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (25-15, 6-6 WAC) fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs (21-19, 6-4) 4-3 in the second game of a doubleheader, again on a run scored in the bottom of the ninth, at Pete Beiden Field Sunday.
Tyler Davis (5-1) took the loss for Hawai`i while Clayton Allison (7-3) got the win.
Brandon Haislet led the way offensively, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBI. Jonathan Hee added a 2-for-4 game, his third multi-hit game of the series. Ian Harrington had a good outing for UH, giving up two runs in 6.2 innings with four strikeouts and no walks.
The Bulldogs again got an early lead, scoring a run in the bottom of the first. But the Rainbows returned the favor in the top of the second as Landon Hernandez drove in Evan Zimny to tie it at 1-1.
Haislet then came up with his third home run of the year, a two-run shot long over the right field fence in the fifth inning, giving Hawai`i the 3-1 edge.
Fresno State came up with a run in the bottom of the seventh and then tied it at 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run by Loren Storey.
The 'Dogs then came up with the crushing blow in the bottom of the ninth, as Todd Sandell hit a walk-off single, scoring Ozzie Lewis to end the game at 4-3.
The doubleheader concludes UH's 12-day roadtrip in California. The 'Bows will host conference-leading Louisiana Tech for a three-game series from April 20-22 at the Les Murakami Stadium.
