Rainbow Wahine In Fifth After First Day Of Spartan Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team (302-300=602) is in fifth place after the first day of the San Jose State Spartan Invitational, held at the Almaden Country Club.

Xyra Suyetsugu (75-75=180) is the top UH golfer, tying for 15th at six-over-par. Dale Gammie (73-78=151) and Lisa Kajihara (78-73=151) are tied for 19th, followed by Nancy Shon (76-76=152) in a tie for 28th and Corie Hou (80-76=156) in a tie for 43rd.

Host San Jose State holds the tournament-lead after two rounds at five-over-par. They are followed by Colorado (+16), California (+19), UC Irvine (+22) and UH (+26).

Individually, SJSU's Jenelle Gomez leads the field at six-under-par. She's followed by Selanee' Henderson of UC Irvine (-4), Cal's Allison Goodman (+1) and Tiffany Veerkamp of Fresno State and Colorado's Lindsay Caljouw and Dominique Pytewski (+2).

The tournament concludes tomorrow with one final round.
