Final Results
KANE`OHE, O`ahu - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team (313-314-308=935) finished the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in seventh place at the Kane`ohe Klipper Golf Course Wednesday.
Dale Gammie (77-73-76=226) was the top UH finisher, tying for sixth. Xyra Suyetsugu (79-80-76=235) placed 28th, followed by Lisa Kajihara (76-84-77=237), in a tie for 30th, Nancy Shon (81-79-79=239), in a tie for 42nd, and Carolina Perez (87-82-83=252), tying for 72nd.
Three UH golfer participated as individuals, led by Erin Matsuoka (78-79-80=237), tying for 30th. Corie Hou (82-78-78=238) finished in a tie for 34th, with Phyllis Lai (84-87-81=252) tying for 72nd.
Texas A&M shot a final round 295, the best round of the tournament, to take the team title at 33-over-par. Arizona (+35) finished second, followed by Brigham Young (+53), Rollins College (+57) and Colorado State (+60).
Texas A&M's Danielle McVeigh and UTEP's Gerina Mendoza each finished at one-over-par (217), forcing a playoff for the individual medalist. McVeigh made a 15-foot birdie putt to win the first playoff hole, on hole No. 17, to take the title. Mendoza made par on the hole. Following those two were Laura Fourdraine of Rollins (+5), Allison Walshe of Arizona (+6) and Amanda Wilson of Arizona (+7).
The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in Peg Bernard Invitational, hosted by Stanford, on April 6-7.
