Rainbow Wahine In Fifth After First Round Of Donnis Thompson Invitational

First Round Results

KANE`OHE, O`ahu - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team (313) finished the first round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in fifth place at the Kane`ohe Klipper Golf Course Tuesday. The second round followed soon after the conclusion of the first.

Lisa Kajihara shot a 76 to put herself in a tie for 15th, the top UH golfer. Dale Gammie posted a 77 to tie for 20th, followed by Xyra Suyetsugu tied for 33rd at 79, Nancy Shon tied for 42nd at 81 and Carolina Perez tied for 71st with an opnening-round 87.

Three Rainbow Wahine played as individuals, led by Erin Matsuoka, tied for 26th at 78. Corie Hou shot an 82 to tie for 55th, with Phyllis Lai tying for 62nd at 84.

Arizona is the tournament-leader at 10-over-par. They are followed by Texas A&M (+11), Brighman Young (+17), Rollins College (+18) and Hawai`i (+25).

Individually, there is a three-way tie for first between UTEP's Gerina Mendoza, Ohio State's Haley Brown and Texas A&M's Christa Spedding at one-over-par. Five golfers are right behind at two-over-par.

The tournament continues with the second roun today and the third, and final, round tomorrow.
