Rainbow Warriors Get By Nevada, 4-3

HONOLULU - Senior Chad Faulk defeated Eldar Dzhafarov, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 in the deciding match to help lift the University of Hawai`i men's tennis team to a 4-3 win over Nevada Sunday morning at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors improved to 4-5 with its second straight win, while the Wolfpack dropped to 6-8.

The dual match was picked up in progress on Sunday morning, following a rain out on Saturday. UH was leading 2-1 going into Sunday's competition as the final four singles matches were completed.

UH took the doubles point by winning two of three matches with Andreas Weber and Sascha Heinemann outlasting Guillaume Tonelli and Laurent Garcin, 9-8 (5) in the clinching match.

The teams then split the six singles matches. Taking home victories for Hawai`i were Weber, Fauk and Jeff Fitch. With Heniemann sitting out singles competition, Weber played at the No. 1 position and stream rolled over Tonelli, 6-2, 6-0. Weber remained undefeated in dual matches (10-0) and picked up his 11th win the last 12 matches. Fitch won in straight sets over Benjamin David, 7-6 (4), 6-4, while Faulk overcame an early deficit to take home the final and deciding match of the day.

Hawai`i's next match will be at home Wednesday, March 21 against Washington of the Pac-10 conference. First serve is 4:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
