National Power North Carolina Defeats Rainbow Wahine Tennis

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team lost to Atlantic Coast Conference and national powerhouse North Carolina, 7-0, Tuesday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 3-9 while the No. 10 Tar Heels improved their record to 13-5.

In doubles play, North Carolina swept all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The fourth-ranked team of Jenna Long and Sara Anundsen defeated the duo of senior Kana Aikawa and freshman Sophie Kobuch, 8-2 at the No.1 position.

In singles play, UH lost all six singles matches. At No. 1, Kobuch gave No. 6 Long a tough first set before losing, 6-4, 6-1. Aikawa gave a valiant effort in her lost to 40th-ranked Katrina Tsang, 7-6(4), 6-0 at the No. 2 court. The Tar Heals featured four nationally ranked singles players and two nationally ranked doubles teams.

The Rainbow Wahine will next host Southeastern Conference and 17th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats (12-1), Friday, March 16. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
