HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team lost a 7-0 decision to Purdue, Monday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 3-8 while the 37th-ranked Boilermakers improved their record to 8-2.
The Rainbow Wahine dropped all three doubles matches to lose the doubles point. The duo of junior Julia Sandborn and senior Samanta Cappella lost a heartbreaking 8-7(7) decision to Randi Schuler and Anna Dzeva at the No. 3 position.
In singles play, UH lost all six matches. At the No. 1 court, freshman Sophie Kobuch lost a long, tough 6-4, 6-2 match to Mallory Voelker. Rainbow Wahine senior Kana Aikawa gave a valiant effort in her loss to Brooke Beier, 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 2 position.
The Rainbow Wahine will next play the No. 10 North Carolina Tar Heals, Tuesday, March 13. On Friday, March 16, UH will play No. 23 Kentucky. First serve for both matches will be at 4:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
