PALO ALTO, Calif. - The fourth-ranked California Golden Bears knocked off No. 5 Hawai`i, 5-2, in a defensive battle in the final match of pool play in the Baker Pool at the Stanford Invitational.
Hawai`i falls to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in pool play. California moves to 2-1 in pool play.
UH's Kelly Mason got the Rainbow Wahine off on the right foot in the first quarter, but Cal added a pair of goals in the second from Molly Hayes and Elsie Windes. However, UH's Kristy Bagnall added a score in the second to knot the game at two at the half.
Cal opened up the scoring in the third quarter on Darby Anderson's goal. Then the Golden Bears pulled away with scores from Grace Reynolds and Camille Hewko in the fourth to cap the scoring, 5-2.
Hawai`i now takes on No. 10 San Jose State in the 1:50 p.m. game for fifth place.
