HONOLULU - The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team rolled over NCAA Division III powerhouse and 4th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus (0-3), 7-0, Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex.
The Rainbow Warriors (1-1) jumped off to a quick start by winning all three doubles matches to win the doubles point. The duo of sophomore Sascha Heinemann and freshman Andreas Weber beat Jesse Brauer and Andy Bryan, 8-3, at the No. 1 court. At No. 2, seniors Derrick Lajola and Chad Faulk dropped Mike Burdakin and David Koppel, 8-2 and sophomore Jeff Fitch and senior Brent Hunter crushed Nicholas Hansen and John Kauss at the No. 3 court, 8-1.
UH swept the six singles matches, all in straight sets to clinch victory. Weber skunked Bryan 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 position and Heinemann rolled over Brauer with ease at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1. Weber, the 37th-ranked player in NCAA Division I is now 10-4 on the season and 3-0 in dual matches. Heinemann also improved to 10-4. Lajola dropped Kauss, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 and Faulk defeated Burdakin at the No. 4 court, 6-2, 6-3. At No. 5, Fitch rolled over Danny Suchy, 6-4, 6-1. Hunter gained his first dual match win of the season by beating Hansen, 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 6 position.
The Rainbow Warriors will next be on a two-match Northern California road trip against Santa Clara on February 14 and San Francisco on February 17.
