WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i- On an unusually windy day, the University of Hawai`i men's tennis team lost a 5-2 decision to the 28th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies, Wednesday afternoon at the Hilton Waikoloa Resort. The 75th-ranked Rainbow Warriors dropped to 2-4 on the season while the Aggies improved to 7-3.
UH dropped all three doubles matches to lose the doubles point.
In singles play, UH won two of the six matches. At the No. 1 position, sophomore Sascha Heinemann outlasted Jerry Makowski in the third-set super tiebreaker, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (4). Heinemann, ranked No. 75 in the FILA Collegiate Singles Rankings, improved his singles record to 14-4 overall, 7-1 in dual matches. The Eschwege, Germany native has won five straight dual singles matches and six of his last seven. Heinemann improved his three-set match record to 5-1.
Rainbow Warrior freshman Andreas Weber rolled over Conor Pollock in straight sets at the No. 2 court, 6-4, 6-4. Weber, ranked No. 86 in the FILA Collegiate Singles Rankings, is also 14-4 overall and improved his undefeated dual match singles mark to 7-0. The Huenfeld, Germany native has won eight of his last nine singles matches. Weber also owns a 7-2 mark in three-set matches.
The Rainbow Warriors will next face Big 10 powerhouse and No. 22 Michigan Thursday, 10:00 a.m. at the Hilton Waikoloa Resort.
