Rainbow Wahine Finish Fresno State Invitational Just Short Of Team Title

FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team (303-296=599) finished the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational in third place, just three strokes behind tournament champion Fresno State, at the Copper River Country Club Tuesday.

Dale Gammie (75-73=148) was the top UH golfer, tying for third at four-over-par. Xyra Suyetsugu (75-74=149) finished in a tie for sixth at six-over-par, followed by Corie Hou (75-75=150) in a tie for ninth, Lisa Kajihara (78-77=155) in a tie for 32nd and Nancy Shon (86-74=160) in a tie for 71st.

Host Fresno State (+20) won their tournament by a slim margin, defeating second-placed UC Irvine (+22) by just two strokes. Hawai`i was one stroke behind the Anteaters at 23-over-par, followed by Long Beach State (+29) and Kansas State (+33).

LBSU's Kay Hoey won the individual title at two-over-par. She was followed by Colorado's Lindsay Caljouw (+3) and Jane Chin of UC Irvine, Fresno State's Jennifer Shipley and Gammie (+4).

The Rainbow Wahine, who came into the tournament ranked No. 49 by Golfstat, posted their fourth-straight top five finish of the season. They will next head to San Jose, Calif., for the Spartan Invitational on March 5-6.
