FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Hawai`i Rainbow Wahine golf team is in third place, just six strokes behind the lead, after firing a 303 on the first day of the Kitahara Fresno State Invitational at the Copper Rive Country Club Monday.
The Rainbow Wahine, ranked No. 49 in the Golfstat rankings, were led by a trio of golfers that shot three-over-par. Dale Gammie, Xyra Suyetsugu and Corie Hou are all tied for 10th after their opening rounds of 75. Lisa Kajihara is tied for 29th after shooting an opening round 78, while Nancy Shon is in 90th with a 86.
UC Irvine holds the team-lead at nine-over-par. They are followed by host Fresno State (+11), UH (+15), Long Beach State (+19) and Colorado (+20).
Individually, UC Irvine's Jane Chin and Selanee Henderson and Dominique Pytlewski of Colorado are tied for the lead at even par. Three golfers, Henna Cho of UC Irvine, Maria Pia Escandon of Fresno State and UC Davis' Kim Johnson, are tied for fourth at one-over-par while three others are tied for seventh at two over.
The tournament continues with the final round tomorrow.
