IRVINE, Calif. - The ninth-ranked UC Irvine women's water polo team handed No. 4 Hawai`i a 10-4 setback this morning on the final day of the UC Irvine Invitational at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
The Anteaters (9-3) jumped out 3-1 after the first quarter and increased it to 5-1 with two quick scores in the second taking a 6-2 lead into the half.
The two teams traded goals in the third quarter. UH got as close as 8-4 on Ryan Hanson-Swaner's goal in the opening seconds of the fourth. But UCI would respond with two goals to close it out 10-4.
The Rainbow Wahine (8-6) will play in the seventh place match at 1:30 p.m. today against the UC Davis-San Jose State loser.
