IRVINE, Calif. - The fourth-ranked University of Hawai`i women's water polo team fell to No. 10 UC Davis, 16-11, in the seventh-place match of the UC Irvine Invitational today at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
In the highest scoring match of the tournament, UC Davis jumped out to 6-2 lead after one and extended it to 10-4 at halftime. UH posted three goals in each the third and fourth quarters, but it was not enough, falling 16-11 to take eighth place.
UH was led in scoring by Kelly Mason and Ryan Hanson-Swaner's three goals apiece. UCD was led by Christi Raycroft and Cassie Schaefer's three goals each. UCD goalie Amber Korner made nine saves in the match, while Kristy Bagnall posted seven. UH All-American goalie Meike De Nooy did not play in either of the two matches today.
The Rainbow Wahine open up a four-match homestand Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 4:00 p.m. against Michigan at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex. UH will also be home the entire month of March to close out its home slate with matches against Pacific (March 14), USC (March 17) and California (March 31).
