Hawai`i Finishes Eighth At Bob Bavier Team Race

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The 18th-ranked University of Hawai`i coed sailing team had it most disappointing showing of the season, finishing eighth at the Bob Bavier Team race hosted by the College of Charleston, Feb. 24-25, at the Stewart Walker Sailing Center at Patriots Point. The host Cougars breezed to victory with a 19-2 mark.

A total of 84 head-to-head races were staged to complete a triple round-robin in gusty conditions over the weekend. Hawai`i was able to muster just three wins in 21 races, defeating Eckerd College twice and the Coast Guard Academy once.

Competing for UH were Mark Spector, Andrew Meade, William Whitman, Chip Lollar, Jaclyn McLoughlin, Becky Mabardy and Darla Baldwin.

The coed team will be back in action next week as the Rainbow sailors compete in the Stanford Team Race in Redwood City, Calif., March 3-4.
