Rainbow Wahine Fall Short To UC Davis, 4-3

MORAGA, Calif.- The University of Hawai`i women's tennis team began its three-match Northern California road trip with a heartbreaking loss to the UC Davis Aggies (6-4), 4-3, Saturday at the Korth Tennis Complex on the campus of Saint Mary's.

The Rainbow Wahine (2-6) dropped two of the three doubles matches to lose the doubles point. The duo of freshmen Julia Hodes and Sophie Kobuch rolled over Herzyl Legaspi and Iolani School graduate Jenna Kappel, 8-3, at the No. 1 position.

In singles play, UH won three of the six matches. Kobuch earned her fifth victory of the 2007 season in straight sets against Robin Guier, 6-0, 6-4, at the No. 2 court. At No. 3, Hodes outlasted Legaspi in two sets, 6-3, 6-2. Junior Chloe Bihag won a 6-3, 6-3 decision against Kappel at the No. 4 position. Bihag and Kobuch have won four of their last five singles matches. Senior Kana Aikawa dropped a tough 6-2, 7-6 (5) match to Desiree Stone at the No. 1 position.

The Rainbow Wahine will next play on the road, Sunday, February 25, against Saint Mary's. UH concludes its three-match Northern California road trip, Tuesday, February 27, at San Jose State.
