USF Gets By Hawai`i, 4-3

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.- For the second time in as many days, the University of Hawai`i men's tennis team lost a 4-3 decision, this time to the San Francisco Dons Thursday afternoon at the Olympic Club. The 73rd-ranked Rainbow Warriors dropped to 1-3 on the season while the Dons improved to 3-1.

The Rainbow Warriors dropped all three doubles matches to lose the doubles point. The duo of sophomore Sascha Heinemann and freshman Andreas Weber lost a heartbreaking decision in a tie-breaker to Rainier Nachbauer and Einar Hart, 9-8(4).

In singles play, UH won three of the six matches. At the No. 1 position, Heinemann outlasted Matt Berry, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Heinemann improved to 12-4 overall and 5-1 in dual matches. Weber rolled over Nachbauer at the No. 2 court, 6-4, 6-3. Weber, ranked No. 37 in the FILA Collegiate Singles Rankings, is also 12-4 overall and is 5-0 in dual matches. Sophomore Jeff Fitch fought back to defeat Mitch Del Rosario in three-sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 5 position. At No. 4, senior Chad Faulk lost a tough match to Asaf Cohen in three-sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

The Rainbow Warriors, who fell to Santa Clara on the opening day of their road trip, conclude its three-match Northern California swing on Friday against No. 62 Saint Mary's.
