SEATTLE -- University of Hawaii coed sailor
Mark Spector finished tenth at the ICSA Singlehanded National Championship in Seattle, Wash. The junior from California set off against 17 other sailors for the two day championship.
Spector tallied 170 points in two days and the first day of the event was canceled due to weather. He raced 18 times and found himself ninth after the first day. He raced 10 times with a score of 81 after day one. Spector is the lone Hawaii sailor this year to compete at the Singlehanded Nationals. He is the first sailor since Bryan Lake in 2002 to qualify for the Singlehanded Nationals and only the sixth sailor in UH history to do so. Thomas Barrows of Yale University won the championship with a score of 66.
The UH coed sailing team is set to compete this weekend at the North/South Intersectional in Santa Barbara, Calif.
