Weber Advances At Waikoloa Futures

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i - University of Hawai'i men's tennis player Andreas Weber advanced at the USTA Waikoloa Futures pro circuit tournament, Saturday, at the Hilton Waikoloa Resort.

The sophomore defeated Sean Wheatley of Australia in an exciting three-set match, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4, in the first round of the qualifying singles draw. Weber, ranked No. 28 in the ITA preseason rankings, will next compete against Bulgaria's Nikola Petrov in the second round.

Rainbow Warrior junior Sascha Heinemann, seeded No. 4, earned a first round bye in the qualifying singles draw. Heinemann, ranked No. 50 in the ITA preseason rankings, will face Matthew Short of Germany in the second round. Short ousted Brad Lum-Tucker in three sets in the first round.

Eight qualifiers will advance to the 64-player main draw, beginning on Tuesday. The pro circuit tournament continues throughout the week.
